Schoolgirls in Chains is a 1973 USA horror by Don Jones. With Gary Kent, John Parker and Stafford Morgan.
Summary Notes
Two deranged brothers, who are
under the domineering influence of their crazed mother, kidnap young girls and keep them captive in chains in their basement, where they subject them to depraved "games" that often end in torture and murder.
Girls in
Chains is a descent cheesy exploitation movie from the early 70's, featuring some good acting, and even some humourous parts. There is nudity, but not as graphic as what are shown in the other trailers, and not as what is suggested by the DVD cover.

Brutes and Savages is a 1978 USA documentary by Arthur Davis. With

Summary Notes
Fascinated by forbidden rituals and ceremonies, world
explorer Arthur Davis takes a crew with hidden cameras to Africa and South America to secretly record the beauty and horror of the "law of the jungle". BRUTES AND SAVAGES is the filmed document of his death-defying adventures. Shocking, brutal
and repulsive, this film mixes bizarre authentic footage with incredibly exploitive (and often hilarious) "re-enactments" of his findings. Animal sacrifices, bizarre tribal ceremonies, mating rituals and even brain surgery.

Summary Notes
A plane crashes in the jungle. One of the survivors gets lost and while trying to find a way out of the jungle he gets captured by cannibals. He is humiliated, stripped naked, and thrown
in a hole with a bird for a while. Eventually, he escapes with the help of a cannibal girl and tries to find his plane so he can go home.
If you're a cannibal junkie, this is one to devour. It's no "Cannibal
Holocaust" and suffers from a somewhat simplistic script, but there's enough grue and nudity to satisfy gorehounds and enough animal cruelty to enrage everyone else.
It ain't pretty, folks, but it is one
of a kind. They don't make 'em like this anymore and even though Deodato says he wants to now make "Cannibal Holocaust 2001" (too late ruggero!) - - don't hold your breath. This is a long-dead genre destined to stay that way. Bon appetit!

The UK DVD of
the Demons by Redemption is 103 minute directors cut restored by Franco in 2003 and is longer than the previous UK VHS release (which ran for less than 80 minutes). It is a decent effort not as good as some of Franco's earlier work but definitely better

Summary Review: It's Nasty
A deeply disturbed photographer and
Vietnam veteran, named Kirk Smith, terrorizes Los Angeles by going around strangling lingerie-clad young women in their homes. He taunts Lindsay Gale, a young psychologist, by calling her on a radio call-in show to describe his sexual hang-ups and
misogynistic ways.
The movie's nasty and what there is of a plot is goofy. But Nicholas Worth scares the hell out of me every time I watch this. At once smug and terrified, forceful and helpless, his whimpering
panic-attack-tantrum gets right into my guts and makes me identify with this obscene morbid beefy creature.
The movie lets you learn just enough about the victims to experience their fear and pain with maximum possible sympathy
and intensity, and the sarcastic detective and other incidental characters get some hilarious lines.

Enter the Devil is a great American-made B horror movie. People are

Dr. Frankenstein and his assistant Morpho are killed just as they bring their creation to life. The monster is taken by Cagliostro and he now controls

Summary Notes
In a small college in North Carolina, only a select few students are left to take
mid terms. But, when a killer strikes, it could be everyone's final exam.
Final Exam was made at the peak of the early 80's slasher period and I'm not surprised that this one been forgotten. The intro is truly typical stuff
with a teen couple making out in a car only to be killed (but in a crap off screen murder). During the next 50 minutes! or so you'll be wondering if you're actually watching a slasher as nothing happens.

Uncut for 1974 cinema release and a 1982 VHS which was seized by the police during the video nasties moral panic. Cut for 1987 VHS but uncut in all home video releases since 1998. Uncut in the US
Summary Review: Blaxploitation
classic
A voluptuous black woman takes a job as a high-class prostitute in order to get revenge on the mobsters who murdered her boyfriend.
Foxy Brown features a brilliant lead
performance from the hypnotically attractive Pam Grier, whose federal agent boyfriend is gunned down, and who sets out to fight for revenge and justice where the System has failed her and at the same time is matched at every turn by Antonio Huggy Bear
Fargas as her no-good younger brother.
The rest of the performances are variable, and the budgets of these things did tend to preclude brilliant method actors! Jack Hill's direction keeps things ticking over nicely and the
screenplay swings wildly between shock-horror tactics, tongue-in-cheek theatricality and even the occasional stab at gut-level farce.
Foxy Brown is a definite must-see. Definitely one of the best, and most enjoyable blaxploitation
films I've seen thus far.

Passed X uncut for UK cinema release in 1976, and for 18 rated DVD in 2011.
Uncut and MPAA Unrated in the US.
Not an official video nasty. But there is a theory that a briefly listed Island of Death was in fact this title rather than the 'officially' assumed Nico Mastorakis' Island
of Death. The title Island of Death appeared on the video nasty list in November 1983 but was dropped in the next issue. There is no way that the nastier Mastorakis Island of Death could ever have been dropped from the
list.
Summary Review : Very well made and very disturbing
The plot involves a British couple on holiday in Spain who decide to visit a remote island for
some peace and quiet, only to find the local kids have begun killing all the adults, faced with life threatening danger from the kids the couple have to ask themselves who can kill a child .
Interestingly this
predates Stephen King's Children of the Corn by 10 years and I wonder if King had ever caught this film. There are many reasons to recommend this film.
The film itself is very well made and very disturbing, it has a
great soundtrack and excellent performances all round!

The authors of Shock Horror offer the theory that this 1983 entry on the list could have been Serrador's Island of Death . It could easily have been removed from the list
once it was realised that it had received a BBFC certificate under a different title. The nastier Mastorakis Island of Death would appear on the list later and stay there until the end.

Summary Review: Nicely Done
New York police are trying to find out who is behind a rash of 'handcuff' murders, while a young artist (and psychic) is finding herself
drawing the horrid crimes!
The opening sequences are quite grabbing, the murders are inventive (although not gory), and the plot builds to a great showdown climax.
Mastroianni's direction is sleekly well done, and
the subtle piano score is a nice touch. The film also carries a kind of sexual vibe through out.
The cast is quite good in their performances. Nicely done on all levels.

The brilliant performance by Joe Spinell came as no surprise. Playing an obsessed fan and

Summary Review: So bad, it's funny
On their way to a disco, Hal and his 'girlfriend' are accosted by a band of Hell's Angels. As they drive away, Hal accidentally runs over one, killing him. The Angels pursue the couple and catch up with them as they are leaving the
disco. They savagely beat up Hal and brutally rape his girlfriend. Hal swears revenge.
This is one of the most disturbing (and not to mention unintentionally funny) films I've ever seen. The dubbing is atrocious, the violence
over-the-top, and the full frontal nudity extreme, there is a LOT of male frontal nudity in this film; so much so that I suspect that either the writer or director was...well, INTO male full frontal nudity.
Mark of the Devil is a 1969 German horror by Michael Armstrong. With Herbert Lom, Udo Kier and Olivera Katarina.
Cut by the BBFC for 1971 cinema release and 1993 VHS which was withdrawn
following police seizures. Less cut for 2003 DVD and finally uncut for 2013 Blu-ray/DVD
Udo Kier is a witch hunter apprentice to Herbert Lom. He believes strongly in his mentor and the ways of the church but loses faith when he catches Lom
strangling Reggie Nalder to death for calling him impotent. Kier begins to see for himself that the witch trials are nothing but a scam of the church to rob people of their land, money, and other personal belongings of value and seduce beautiful big
breasted women.
This film contains very strong graphic torture including a women's tongue being ripped out of her head, nuns being raped (in the opening credits), and lots of beatings.
Back in its day, this
film was probably the most controversial movie ever made as it depicted the witch trials going on Europe during the darkest page of human existence.
The entire cast gives it their all and makes this film believable. The only
hindrance is the dubbing, but for foreign horror film fans like me, dubbing just adds to the charm.
I was pleasantly surprised and got a much better film than I was expecting. If you're a fan of atmospheric Euro horror, don't
believe all the bad hype as this film is a true gem.

Summary Notes
George Romero does for vampires what he has

Shogun Assassin is a 1980 Japan/US action film by Robert Houston. With Tomisaburo Wakayama, Kayo Matsuo and Minoru Oki.
Not an official video nasty. It was seized by police but was not
prosecuted and wasn't listed as a nasty.
Japanese executioner treks around with young son in tow looking for revenge on the men who killed his wife. Lots of stylish bloody sword play and blood spattering.
Summary
Review : A great film
A great samurai warrior served his Shogun honorably. The Shogun however grew paranoid and sought to destroy all those who might stand to oppose his rule. He sent his ninja
spies to the samurai's home. The ninjas failed to kill the samurai, but did kill his beloved wife. From then on, the samurai swore to seek out the Shogun and avenge the death of his love. The samurai roams the countryside with his toddler son taking on
mercenary work for money until the final battle with the Shogun's three Masters of Death.
Shogun Assassin is a great film. Much "controversy" has arisen over the years regarding this film having been cobbled
together from two other films in the Lone Wolf series. I think that what has been achieved is an extremely entertaining, fast-paced piece of action. By eliminating non-essential story lines and including a voice over narration, the action moves at break
neck speed. The amount of blood spilled is so over the top as to be cartoonish, which only adds to the uniqueness of the movie.
Shogun Assassin is actually an amalgam of two 1972 films titled Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance
and Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart at the River Styx . The producer decided to join the best bits of these two films (using around 10 minutes of the first film as a pre-credits flashback sequence to introduce the characters).
Vipco released the video and it got caught up in the video nasties panic. Copies were seized and the distributors were prosecuted.
But the prosecution failed and the videos were returned. Shogun Assassin was never officially listed as a video nasty by the DPP.
The 1992 Vipco was pre-cut along the lines of the cinema version. No further BBFC cuts were required

Suffer Little Children is a 1983 UK video horror by Alan Briggs. Starring
Colin Chamberlain, Ginny Rose and Jon Hollanz.
The film was cut for an unofficial BBFC 18 rating issued prior to the implementation of the VRA. The film was seized by the police anyway and the film got caught up in the tabloid hysteria around the video nasty era. The film was
passed 18 uncut for UK DVD release in 2017.
The DVD version has a significant number of variations from the VHS. version.
Summary Notes
This amateur video production, (not particularly well regarded), is claimed to be a reconstruction of events involving child demonic possession which took place at 45 Kingston Road, New Malden, Surrey,
England in August 1984. None of these events were reported to the press though, not the to mention the fact that the film was conceived and shot in 1983, well before the supposed baseline event.
The video was submitted to the BBFC for a pre-VRA
unofficial rating in December 1984. The BBFC asked for about 2 minutes of cuts. However the distributors suffered a police raid on the day after the submission and the police seized the film. The police seemed to think that the uncut
version was illegal and would not give the distributors the opportunity to implement the cuts that would make it legal. The DPP considered the film for 3 months before deciding that no further action would be taken as long as the film was only
distributed in the BBFC approved version. The film was caught up in press frenzy at this time, with the inevitable calls for a ban and worse.

In his interview on the DVD release, director Alan Briggs claims that Films Galore rush released an unfinished, uncompleted version of the film onto the VHS market, but
if anything it's the DVD version that appears to be an earlier edit of Suffer Little Children. The VHS release correcting audio issues, continuity mistakes and implementing the cuts that the BBFC asked for. So, there really isn't a definite version of
the film out there. If you want to see the gore intacto you need the DVD release. If you want to hear what the actors are saying and see four scenes that never made it to DVD then be prepared to dig deep into your pockets for a copy of the 1980s VHS, in
order to complete the Suffer Little Children experience.

1985 Films Galore VHS
Thanks to the BBFC for details of this release:
The video was submitted to the BBFC for an unofficial video certificate in December 1984 (this was prior to the formal implementation of the Video Recordings Act which
occurred on 1 September 1985). The video was considered by a number of BBFC examiners and senior staff and a list of cuts required for classification at 18 was issued to the company in January 1985. After the cuts list was issued the film was seized by
the police from the distributor's premises and was subsequently forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for consideration as to whether any offences had been committed in relation to the proposed distribution of the film.
In April 1985 the DPP concluded that no further action would be taken provided the film was only distributed in a cut version that had been approved by the BBFC.
Later in April 1985 a cut version was seen by
the BBFC and this cut version was approved at 18 on 16 April 1985. However, the distributor was reminded that the certificate issued was unofficial and they would need to resubmit the film for a formal certificate under the terms of the Video Recordings
Act if they intended to continue distribution beyond 1 September 1985.
The film was never resubmitted and no formal certificate was ever issued under the Video Recordings Act meaning that the video became - in effect -
unclassified after September 1985. It has not been resubmitted to the BBFC since 1985.
Suicide Cult is a 1975 USA horror by James Glickenhaus (as Jim Glickenhaus). Starring Bob Byrd, Mark Buntzman and James Glickenhaus.
Released on pre-cert VHS and got caught up in the video nasties panic
and was seized by police. It didn't become an official video nasty though. Uncut and MPAA R rated in the US.
Summary Notes
Writer/director James Glickenhaus made his feature debut
with this bizarre tale of government skullduggery, satanic killings, zodiacal mayhem and messianic horror. A scientist investigating reports of the Second Coming of Christ finds himself battling against a suicidal devil cult.
The film got caught up in the video nasties panic end ended up being seized by the police. There was no follow up and the film was never listed as an official video nasty.
1976 Italy horror by Rino di Silvestro (Cinehollywood).
Not an official video nasty. However it did make a local police list of films banned

A woman has dreams that she is a werewolf so she goes out and finds men. She proceeds to have sex with them and then rip their throats out with her teeth
This awesome Euro cult film is about
Danielle (Annik Borel) who was traumatised in her youth and now, as a young woman, believes herself to be the reincarnation of a long dead werewolf ancestor. She has a phobia of men and sex, and when her sister (Dagmar Lassander) returns home from study
overseas with her new husband, she kills him thus begining a decent into madness and murder.
Despite the title, the only werewolf in the film appears in the opening scene in which Danielle is having a nightmare of her
ancestor (also played by Annik Borel) dancing naked then transforming before being caught by a mob of pitch-fork brandishing and torch waving villages, who burn her at the state like a witch.
The film has a great cinematic
style with occasional spatterings of gore and generous helpings of nudity. Annik Borel is brilliant playing the werewolf woman as she manages to look genuinely detached and vulnerable then instantly snapping to a furious insane rage. In the hands of a
lesser leading lady the film would probably fail.

Xtro is a 1982 UK alien film by Harry Bromley Davenport. With Philip Sayer, Bernice Stegers and Danny Brainin.
No censors cuts but exists in two versions, The theatrical version with a happy end, the video version with a downbeat end. The film was seized by police during the video nasties moral panic but no action was taken against the film.
Summary Review: Much to enjoy
If you can overlook its obviously low budget and tolerate the BBC Radiophonic Workshop-like synthesizer on the soundtrack, there's much
to enjoy in XTRO. It's a simple tale of a family man returning to Earth after three years in the company of aliens whose customs and ways of life he hasn't completely surrendered.
Fans of the gross and outrageous
will enjoy the sight of a fully-grown man being literally reborn and the several messy killings that further spice up this warped and somewhat disturbing British shocker. Although clearly inspired by Ridley Scott's Alien, XTRO actually bears more than a
passing resemblance to Norman J.Warren's notorious Inseminoid, except things are much nastier here.

Zombie Holocaust is a 1980 Italy horror by Marino Girolami (as Frank Martin). Starring Ian McCulloch, Alexandra Delli Colli and Sherry Buchanan.
Uncut by the BBFC since 2000 18 rated VHS. Previously self censored for
pre-cert VHS during the video nasties panic. It was seized by the police but never became an official video nasty. There is cut US version named Dr Butcher MD, but it is uncut under the title Zombi Holocaust.
Promotional Material
A macabre mix of the classic Italian cannibal and zombie cycles, ZOMBI HOLOCAUST features Euro-exploitation stalwart Ian McCulloch (CONTAMINATION) as an academic who heads to a remote Caribbean island to research an
intriguing murder-mystery. Once there, he and his team (which includes the beautiful Alessandra Delli Colli from THE NEW YORK RIPPER) are shocked to discover that the tropical abode is home to a mad surgeon who is creating zombies out of the local
flesh-feasting natives! Also known as DOCTOR BUTCHER MD, and heavily indebted to the work of Lucio Fulci and George Romero, this superb bout of splatter carnage comes from the golden age of Italian gore.
