News December 2017: Staff required The local newspaper seems well
keen on Private Shop as it runs another major article this time noting that the shop is recruiting. See article from

From ETO's Mystery Shopper, September
2016: Improved A vast array of R18 DVDs at £ 30 with a 3 for £ 60 deal, and £ 25 (3 for £ 50). Clean, tidy and significantly improved.
News July 2016: pokestop
The Private Shop made the news for being pinpointed on the game App Pokemon GO as a 'pokestop' where people can meet and trade.
News October 2014: Purple patch PrivateShop in Plymouth city
centre has had its licence renewed - opening the door to a revamp bosses say will give it a more inviting new look. Under the new terms, the store will be allowed to change its front window to display a sign saying your intimate lifestyle
and the adult store you can trust From the Mystery Shopper A rather tough shop location is reflected in the shop where you are met by a metal faced door that an H-Block would be proud of. There was a wide
choice of £40 DVDs (4 for £100) Serviceable but a sober and unexciting shop |

Review from Ian, July 2014: Well organised Location This store is situated just off the A1 motorway on the North Bound carriageway. I think this used to be a restaurant or
something like that as the location is not your usual place for a Adult Store. Located next to a petrol station, it is signed, but only just before the turn off into the car park. Plenty of parking spaces. If you want to be little
more discreet or are a bit nervous of being seen heading to an adult shop, then I suggest you park around the side of the store The Shop The store is large, open plan and it seemed well organised and
set out. Plenty of choice of sexy clothing, sex toys and R18 DVD's. DVD's had been separated in genres and the choice was good. A television at the back of the store was playing some R18 Movie which caught my eye.
Prices The DVD's are not cheap at £30 each, but the prices are pretty much the same across any location now. They do discount deals if you buy several DVD's and you're feeling flush.
Staff When I visited this store I was the only person there. The female member of staff was reading something at the counter. I said Hello and she replied. I was looking around the store around 10
minutes she never once came over to speak with me. I am used to the usual If you need any help speech but didn't even get that. I did have a few questions but decided to leave it. Overall
The Location is rather unusual, but if you are travelling on the A1 its probably worth a stop. I didn't bother me in the slightest that the staff didn't ask me if I wanted any help, but this would of been nice.
Worth a visit if you're passing.

News August 2022: Love Empire The shop has changed from Private Shop to Love Empire. The shop signage suggests that it now focuses on exotic lingerie and clubwear.
Review from Colin, April 2010: Quick
Quick The shop has a novel approach to hurrying up long time browsers by suggesting that they risk being reported to police as potential perverts along with CCTV footage. Hopefully tongue in cheek, but in Stasi Britain one can never
be quite sure that there isn't an element of truth. Reader review There was a good range of R18 material available, amounting to 350 video and another 350 DVD titles according to the staff with more expected soon. There
was also a fair selection of sex toys and some magazines.
The two male staff were very friendly and unassuming and quite willing to let people browse on their own or provide advise if requested. Portsmouth City Council's foolish provision that
*anyone* entering the shop *must* show proof of age had already been abandoned by the time I arrived at midday, which was a shame as no one has asked me for proof of age for more than 20 years.
The DVD's and Video's are expensive with every one
marked up at £40, but there are also numerous offers available such as 2 for £60, 4 for £100, bundled packs of 10 for £60 and 20 for £100. There is also 50% off for part exchange (with receipt) and it is well worth asking to
see what other offers they are willing to make. I bought Private Gladiator parts 1 and 2 (3 discs) for £40.
Overall a bit expensive, but still worth a visit and definitely a massive improvement over previously. |

Temptations 128 Friargate Preston PR1 2EE Licensed and trading since December 2001. Moved to new premises on the same street in 2013. Previously known as The Adult Shop.

Review from ETO's Mystery Shopper, August 2017: Cluttered The shop was busy perhaps due to R18s being priced at £20 each or 3 for £40. Magazines are also on sale but the shop is a little cluttered.
From The Adult Shop:
Has recently been extended and a new toys and clothes section has been fitted with a new fantastic dolls selection extended. With all the new videos, dvds and mags there's something for everyone so come and meet our friendly staff who
will be happy to meet you! From Trevor: Visited recently, NOT as stated in description by owner: one to avoid...Poor customer service...when will people learn that politeness and friendliness are the key to selling, not
haggling and cynicism... |

|
Review from ETO's Mystery Shopper, August 2017: A good range of DVDs A good range of R18 DVDs with most at £25 or 3 for £50. There were also videos at £15 and £10 with equivalent multi-buy deals. The location is good
being close to the town centre.
News March 2014: Sign of the Times The request for new signage was rejected by Preston Council. Vice chairman, Councillor Carl Crompton, spouted: If it hadn't had the couple on it would have gone
through. But with the couple in, some of the members thought it could possibly lead to younger children asking questions that the adults might not want to answer. It was just inappropriate for something that's opposite the Town Hall and one of the main
thoroughfares through the city.
News March 2014: New Signage The shop has applied to the council for new signage. The council have asked the shop to be more discreet than at present.
